40 Month's Research Fellowship at Birmingham University, UK

To carry out research into corrosion issues related to nuclear waste storage using synchrotron X-rays and other characterisation and modelling techniques as part of an EPSRC/NDA-funded programme, and to co-ordinate synchrotron experiments and other interactions between the partner institutions and collaborators. The post will be based at the Research Complex at Harwell (Rutherford Appleton Laboratory)

Specifications

• First degree in materials science or a related physical science/engineering degree and should have or be close to completing a PhD in a relevant research area or in possession of relevant equivalent qualifications/research experience
• High level analytical capability
• Experience with synchrotron X-ray methods including microtomography, diffraction and spectroscopy
• Experience with electrochemical methods for characterising corrosion processes
• Experience with modelling corrosion systems
• Knowledge of corrosion issues related to nuclear waste storage
• Ability to communicate complex information clearly
• Experience of interacting with industrial sponsors
• Ability to assess resource requirements and use resources effectively
• Understanding of and ability to contribute to broader management/administration processes
