Swiss Government scholarships for university, fine arts and music schools for foreign students for the academic year 2011-2012

The Swiss Government awards a range of scholarships to foreign students through the Federal Commission for Scholarships for Foreign Students (FCS): university scholarships (Swiss universities and Federal Institutes of Technology), arts scholarships (schools of music and fine arts) and scholarships for universities of applied sciences (UAS). These scholarships provide graduates from all fields with the opportunity to pursue postgraduate studies or research in Switzerland at a public funded university or recognised institution.

Nanoelectric PhD Scholarship in Switzerland

Several PhD student positions are available at the Laboratory of Nanoscale Electronics and Structures at EPFL (Lausanne, Switzerland) headed by Prof. Andras Kis.

Description :

Highly motivated students will have an opportunity to work on projects related to mesoscopic transport, fabrication, processing and characterization of novel nanoelectronic devices as well as nanomaterial growth.

The group employs AFM, transport measurements in a cryostat with a magnet and related techniques for measurements on nanoscale structures we fabricate in the EPFL class 100 cleanroom.

Requirements :

A Master’s degree in physics, electrical engineering or materials science
Proficiency in spoken and written English is also required
Previous experience in cleanroom processing, electron microscopy, scanning probe microscopy, instrumentation programming or thin film growth is desirable

Switzerland - 2009 CERN Summer Studentships in Particle Physics and Computing

Studentships in Summer (Non Member State Nationals)

A limited number of studentships during the summer period are available. Full CERN financial support is offered to students in physics and engineering fields who are nationals of countries that are not Member States of CERN.
Students will join in the day-to-day work of research teams participating in experiments at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland.

The deadline for this application is fixed on 13 February 2009.

Role Description
In addition to the work in the experimental teams, the selected students have the possibility to attend a series of lectures. Several scientists from around the world share their knowledge about a wide range of topics in the fields of theoretical and experimental particle physics and computing.

Eligibility Conditions

* You are NOT a national of a CERN Member State CERN Member State.
* You are a university-level undergraduate or post-graduate student.
* You have a good knowledge of English; knowledge of French would be an advantage.
